Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu – 4 Days

This Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu of four days perfectly combines the cultural and natural beauty of Cusco. We will enjoy the magnificent views of the snow-capped Salkantay, and the natural attractions that surround it, like Humantay. We will camp in unique places and our experience will culminate visiting Machu Picchu world wonder. The walk takes us back to the time of the Incas and will make us aware of the spirits of the mountains, while we prepare ourselves emotionally to visit Machu Picchu.


DAY 1: CUSCO – SORAYPAMPA- HUMANTAY LAGOON

We will leave from Cusco (3350m) at 5:15a.m. towards Challacancha, where we will arrive at 9a.m. in a tourist transport. We will continue 6 hours towards Soraypampa. In the afternoon we can visit Humantay Lagoon. Night in Soraypampa.


Climate: cold.
Transport time: 4 hours.
Hiking time: 6 hours.

DAY 2: SORAYPAMPA – SALKANTAY PASS - CHALLWAY

Very early we will start the walk to the Challway area, where we will enjoy the nature and the view of the Vilcabamba mountain ranges. Night in Challway.

DAY 3: CHALLWAY – WIÑAYPOCO –HIDROELECTRICA – AGUAS CALIENTES

At 5 in the morning we will start the longest trek of the trip, which will last between 8 and 9 hours to the place known as “La Playa”; here we will have lunch and take transportation to Hidroelectrica; after that, we will go to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu village). Night in Aguas Calientes.


Hiking time: 5 hours, during a warm day with mosquitoes and cold in the night.
Transportation time: 1h30, from La Playa to Hydroelectric

DAY 4 AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO

After our breakfast, at 5:30 in the morning, we will go to the citadel of Machu Picchu, where we will have a guided tour. At night we return to Cusco. End of the peruyacuexpeditions.com/ service.

Included:
  • Informative briefing before the trip; it is made the night before leaving. You can choose the schedule between 6-8p.m.
  • Pick up from your hotel in the morning and transfer to Challacancha
  • Our service includes the overnight in Igloo or Huts- these are much more comfortable than conventional tents. There distribution is of 2 people in each Igloo or Hut (having a maximum capacity of 04 people)
  • Kitchen tent, dining room with tables and chairs
  • 1 night accommodation in basic lodging in Aguas Calientes
  • Cook and kitchen assistant
  • Horses: Our horses and mules can only carry a maximum of 7 kilos of load from day 1 to day 2.
  • Food: 3 breakfasts, 3 lunches and 3 dinners are included (vegetarian menus and special diets are available at no additional cost)
