Ausangate Trek 5 Days

The Ausangate trek 5 days is the most challenging and fantastic hike that you can find in the Cusco region. The path is physically demanding, it is considered a high altitude walk, you walk on the 5,000 meters above sea level /16404 feet, and the camps are on the 4,400 meters above sea level /14435 feet.

Itinerary

1 Days: Cusco – Tinki – Pajchanta (4,320 meters / 14,173 feet) – Qomerqocha (4,590 meters / 15,059 feet).

To start this beautiful adventure. The professional guide specialized in trekking assigned by the Matours Agency will pass by your hotel in Cusco at 7:00 a.m., then travel in a private van to Pajchanta community. Before your first lunch and hiking, relax in the thermal medicinal waters.

In the afternoon, start 2 and a half hour hike to the Qomerqocha Lagoon. Lagoon located between huge snow-clad mountains, also place where you will have enough time to take excellent photographs, and you will spend your first night of camping.

2 Days: Qomerqocha – Paso Jhampa (5,010 meters / 16,437 feet) – Huchuy Phinaya (4,510 meters / 14,793 feet).

Today, you will wake up between the enormous snow-capped mountains and with breathtaking panoramic views. Take your first fantastic breakfast at 6:00 a.m. then, begin to ascend following an ancient path at a slow pace to Jhampa pass. From where you will have beautiful panoramic views of the snow-clad mountains chain. Then, begin to descend to Jhampa Pampa, where you will enjoy a delicious lunch. After, continue downhill for 2 and a half hours through a deep valley full of alpacas and llamas until you reach Huchuy Phinaya, where you will spend the second night of camping.

3 Day: Huchuy Phinaya – Palomani Pass (5,210 m / 17,010 ft) – Ausangate Qocha – Ananta (4,650 m / 15,252 ft)

Today, you will wake up in the foothills of the highest mountain in the Cusco region, Ausangate (6,370 meters) and you will also pass to the highest point of the entire Ausangate trek 5-day, the Palomani Pass. Have your breakfast at 6:00 a.m. then, start climbing towards the Palomani pass, from where you will enjoy splendid views in 360°, you will also have a breathtaking view of the Sacred Mountain (Inca’s time) and in the tour, you will be able to witness vicuñas in their natural habitat at more than 5 thousand meters of altitude.

After admiring the beauty of nature, begin to descend to Ausangate Qocha where you will enjoy a delicious lunch. Then continue with the gentle hike to Ananta where you will spend your third night of the expedition.

As always, at 5:30 p.m. You will enjoy a hot drink and at 6:30 p.m. will have dinner.


4 Day: Ananta – The 7-color mountain (5030 meters / 16,502 feet) – Ananta – Abra Chillka (4,990 meters / 16,371 feet) – Yana Qocha (4,490 meters / 14,727 feet).

Today is a crucial day because you will visit the busiest and most colorful place of this Ausangate trek 5 days.


To be the first tourists to visit the 7-color mountain, take your breakfast at 5:30 a.m. and start walking at 6 in the morning. The hike will take you 2 and a half hours to the rainbow mountain and when you get to the viewpoint, take excellent pictures and finally return by same way to the Ananta camp where our expedition cook will be waiting for you with an energetic lunch.


After lunch, at approximately 2 p.m. complete the second part of today’s walk to the Yana Qocha camp. While you walk along this stretch, nature will not fail to surprise you, from Chillca step you will have impressive views of colorful lagoons and behind them will be the Ausangate Mountain.


5 Day: Yana Qocha – Abra Arapa (4,740 m / 15,551 ft) – Upis Community (4,415 m / 14,484 ft) – Cusco.

Have the last breakfast of your adventure at 6:00 a.m., then start to enjoy the last part of Ausangate Trek 5 days. The hike to the Upis community will take you 4 hours at a slow pace. Before lunch, visit the hot springs, which will be an excellent relaxation after an arduous hike.


After your last lunch, catch your exclusive mobility to the city of Cusco. But before starting a trip of 3 and a half hours, you have to say goodbye to the team of the expedition (muleteers and the cook)

Arrival at the city of Cusco – hotel at approximately 6 p.m.
